Residents to have a say on £121m revamp of Pendleton homes

Residents are to have a say on how Pendleton could be transformed as part of a £121m regeneration project.

Drop in sessions are being held next week (from Monday 6 July) to show local people the different design proposals for the area put forward by the three contractors bidding to carry out the work.

The multi-million pound investment for the area, funded through private finance initiative (PFI), will see the majority of houses refurbished, with several areas undergoing complete redevelopment to provide new and improved homes.

This includes external facelifts and interior improvements to tower blocks.

Separate sessions will be held with each of the three companies, Inspiral Pendleton, Solutions 4 Salford and SP+, who have been successful at this stage of the bidding process.

Artist's impressions of the company's plans will be on show for the first time for residents to give their feedback.

This feedback will then be used to develop more detailed plans which will be part of another consultation with the community in November.

The chosen bidder is expected in September next year with work to start on site in 2011.

Councillor Peter Connor, Salford City Council's lead member for housing said: "The community has been heavily involved in the plans for the Pendleton so far and it's important that we keep it that way.

"This regeneration project is about improving homes for local people and we must make sure that any proposals for the area reflect the needs and expectations of the community.

"So we can do that I want to encourage people to come down to these drop in sessions to tell us what they think of the plans so far and how they'd like to see Pendleton develop."

The drop in sessions will be held at different time over three days on Monday 6, Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 July.

The following first sessions will be held on Monday from 2 - 4pm:

  • Inspiral Pendleton (proposals for Nursery Street and the Broadwalk) at Pendleton Gateway
  • Solutions 4 Salford (proposals for High Street, Clarendon Park, Denbigh, Lindinis, Wrotham Close) at Fit City Clarendon
  • SP+ (proposals for Athole Street and Amersham Street, South Clarendon, Blodwell Street) at Lark Hill Primary School
