About this site
How Where2nxt started
In December 2005 the Government published a paper called the '14-19 Implementation Plan'. This document said that each local authority in England had to develop a 14-19 Prospectus that had to display all of the learning and training opportunities available to young people aged 14 to 19 in the local area.
In addition, the prospectus had to be a searchable, internet-based list of 14-19 learning and training opportunities, and it had to give young people a clear and impartial view of all the options open to them.
Where2nxt Steering Group
To make sure the prospectus met the needs of all its stakeholders and partners, an planning and operational group (known as a steering group) was created.
The Where2nxt Steering Group was made up of the following groups and organisations;
- Salford 13-19 Partnership
- Salford City Council
- Connexions Salford
- Learning and Skills Council (LSC)
- 2 colleges
- 2 training providers
- 2 high schools
- 1 special high school
Involving young people
We also wanted to involve young people in as much of the development as possible. More information is available on how young people were invovled in the making of Where2nxt and you can hear from two of the learners in their case study.
Developing the site
Since then, the 13-19 Partnership (which evolved from the 14-19 partnership) began working with web developers, training and learning providers and with young people to create Salford's 14-19 Prospectus and information site.
The result has seen the creation of Where2nxt - a site with information, advice and guidance on options; and a fully searchable 14-19 Prospectus.
