Statement of accounts

This page contains the council's published statements of accounts and associated documents (available at the bottom of the page).

Unaudited accounts are posted to this page following their approval by the council's Audit and Accounts Committee at the end of June each year. At that time, they are still subject to review by the council's external auditors, the Audit Commission. They are replaced by the final, audited accounts at the conclusion of the audit at the end of September, after their sign-off by the Audit and Accounts Committee. The Audit Commission's Annual Audit and Inspection Letter and their Final Accounts Memorandum are published subsequently, as and when they become available.

Inspection of accounts ("notice of public rights")

There is a formal twenty working day statutory period wherein any person may inspect the unaudited accounts and supporting documents. For this purpose, you may not inspect documents that are not relevant to the accounts or are otherwise legally protected, nor may you inspect documents that contain personal information about a member of staff.

The formal inspection period is normally in August each year. However, we will normally try to assist Salford residents with an explanation of the accounts at any other time. In addition, for a period during the audit, usually in September, the District Auditor will receive questions on or objections to the statement of accounts from any Salford elector.

Summary statement of accounts

The full statements of account are extremely detailed and comprehensive in order to give as complete a view as possible of the council’s finances. While this is necessary for specialist users of the accounts, we recognise that many people will only wish to see general information, or are interested only in a particular area, or may just find the full statements daunting.

Therefore, we produce the summary statement of accounts leaflet for distribution to a wider audience, and would be very interested in your view on it.
