Adoption

Two toddler aged girls

Salford places up to 30 children a year in adoptive families, but we still have more children waiting for the right family to come along.

We are a very experienced adoption team and can help you decide if adoption is right for you and your family. We’ll be there to support you every step of the way and pride ourselves on the service we provide. We offer an excellent support package after the adoption that is tailored to the needs of you and your child/children.

In the most recent Ofsted inspection, our service was given the overall quality rating of 'good' with some 'outstanding' features.

The report noted the excellent support on offer, stating "An excellent range of in-house, multi-agency and external support services is provided to adopters, both before and after the adoption order has been made. This support is extremely well thought out and is effective in keeping families together." To view the full report, please download the PDF document at the bottom of this page.

At Salford City Council, we are particularly interested in hearing from you if you can adopt a family group of two or more, children with developmental delay or disabilities or children over six years of age, but we never stop taking on adopters for any age group.

If you have space in your home, are caring and committed to helping children reach their potential, you can adopt, regardless of gender, sexuality, marital status, disability or location.

You don’t have to live in Salford to adopt through us and we are particularly interested in people living in a 30 mile radius of Salford. As well as placing children from Salford, we have links and make placements throughout the north west and nationwide.

Adopters come from diverse backgrounds, as do the children looking for adoptive families. Ideally we would like children to grow up in a family that share their language, religion and culture, so we welcome people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds.

We also hold regular open evenings, where you can talk to adoptive parents and ask questions. To further help you consider what’s involved in adopting a child we hold regular preparation groups throughout the year, run by our experienced team.

If you’d like to find out more about adoption, we’d love to hear from you. Call and speak to our team for an information pack or informal discussion. We pride ourselves on providing a personal service and will be happy to answer any questions.

If you’d like to find out more about adoption, we’d love to hear from you.
