We will provide advice and help you successfully achieve what you have chosen to learn. Most of our courses are free.

Our tutors are professionally qualified and experienced in teaching adults in local communities. They will provide personal support wherever possible, or identify potential areas of help.

What is adult learning in Salford?

Salford Adult Learning receives funding to provide learning in Salford. The classes may be run during the day or evening; they may be as short as a two hour workshop or a thirty-week course.

Adult courses include a wide range of subjects to choose from. They meet the needs of parents, carers and the wider community.

What types of courses are offered?

Courses start at a beginner level and move on to Level 1 and 2 courses, which are the same level as GCSEs.

  • Computers
  • Basic reading and writing
  • Creative writing
  • Languages - including Italian and Spanish 
  • Crafts
  • Family learning - find out more about what your child does at school, how you can help him or her and improve your own skills at the same time

Where does adult learning take place?

Courses are run in community settings such as day centres, community centres, libraries and children's centres. Classes also run in both primary and high schools.

The future of adult learning

The government is carrying out a consulation on the future of adult learning. Everyone's views are welcome, you can share your thoughts on how you think adult learning should be funded and delivered on the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) website. Please note, the consultation will close on 21 October 2011.
