Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) was adopted on 20 January 2010.
The document replaces the former SCI which was adopted in March 2008. Since 2008, national-level planning legislation had been introduced which altered the production process for Local Development Documents. As a result, the SCI required minor factual updates. These updates were subject to consultation in July and August 2009. They did not amend the nature of community involvement and consultation set out in the original document.
Purpose of the SCI
The SCI sets the council's policy for community engagement in:
- the production of formal planning documents, known as Local Development Documents, which together form part of Salford's Local Development Framework; and
- the determination of planning applications.
The Statement of Community Involvement aims to increase public involvement in planning processes. It sets out who will be involved, by what method and at what point in the process of document production or in the determination of planning applications. It gives more certainty to those wishing to get involved in the planning process.
The SCI is available to view:
- At all Salford libraries
- At the Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford (opening times: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm)
- It can be downloaded at the foot of the page, along with the Schedule of Responses which includes all comments received during the consultation period, and any changes which were made to the SCI as a result.
Printed copies of the document are available to purchase at a cost of £8 (including postage and packing). To order a copy, please email us or send a cheque or postal order, crossed and marked 'Account Payee' and made payable to Salford City Council (contact details below).
