Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed to equip people with job-specific skills and experiences that meet the needs of employers. As well as earning a wage, apprentices also work towards nationally recognised qualifications, which can take between one and four years to complete, depending on the level of apprenticeship and the industry sector it is in.

Support for employers

There are a number of different incentive schemes available to help employers take on an apprentice:

Information on each of the incentive schemes is available from the relevant campaign pages. You can also complete the employer expression of interest form to request more information, or visit the National Apprenticeship Service website for general information on apprenticeships.

Interested in becoming an apprentice?

If you are interested in becoming an apprentice then you can visit the National Apprenticeship Service's vacancies website to register your interest and search for current apprenticeship opportunities.

You can also get support from the Connexions service if you are 16 to 24 years of age and from the skills and work service if you are over the age of 25 and currently unemployed.

Careers information and advice is also available from the National Careers Service.
