Highway works by utility companies
Utilities, also known as 'statutory undertakers', are companies such as BT, Transco, United Utilities Water/Electric and NTL that have been licensed by central Government to excavate in any public highway under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. The companies are required to serve notice on the city council, as highway authority, of their intention to commence works.

How to register to vote
The Salford Register of Electors (the Electoral Roll) is a record of everyone eligible to vote who lives within the city. You do not have to vote on election day (it is your democratic choice), but you are required by law to register. The city council is required to keep two versions of the current electoral register. These are the Full Register and an Edited Register.
