Other Services
Our main function is the delivery of a statutory building regulation service, but we also provide a number of other services related to building standards and public safety. These include:
Dangerous buildings | Demolition | Disabled access |
Safety at sports grounds | Security for buildings |
The Development Team Approach | Partnering
The Building Regulations first introduced requirements to provide facilities for the disabled in 1985.
Since then these requirements have been extended and include all new buildings, including dwellings, together with alterations and extensions.
Building Control can provide you with guidance on accessibility issues and your obligations under Part M of the Building Regulations, such as: ramped access to entrances, ambulant staircases, door, corridor and lobby requirements plus sanitary accommodation, building circulation design and fire safety.
In order to be effective, accessibility has to be incorporated within the early stages of building design process. Please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance. If we can't provide the answer we will be able to put you in touch with someone who can.
Building security is a major concern in any large and developing city. Within Salford the redevelopment of large areas of inner city housing has resulted in the need to maintain building security. Building Control works closely with other departments and maintains a 24-hour security service for properties within areas where vandalism and nuisance have proved to be a problem. If you have concerns about any open or derelict buildings please don't hesitate to contact us.
About to commence in Salford for larger or more complex projects, the Development Team Approach (DTA) is a service to provide a co-ordinated approach to your proposals at an early stage. Not just involving Building Control and Development Control, the DTA brings together all the disciplines relevant to your proposal including the fire service and environmental health to provide useful advice and contact points. By reducing the risk of giving conflicting advice the scheme can help get your proposal off on the right track saving valuable time.
In order to enhance the service we provide for our customers we have adopted the Local Authority Building Control Partnering initiative.
This scheme encourages customers such as architects or contractors to partner with a building control authority of their choice. Building control applications are dealt with by the partnering authority wherever, in the country, the work may be. This develops an excellent working relationship resulting in the development of the familiarity and expertise needed to process applications more efficiently. We are currently partnering with:
- Acorn Construction
- R.A. Fisk and Associates (Architects)
- Interserve PLC
- Plans4buildings
- ORBIT Developments
- Urban Vision Architects
If you are pleased with the service we offer and would like to "partner" for work outside of Salford don't hesitate to contact us.
