Have your say on the Boundary Commission Review
The Boundary Commission has put forward proposals for a new set of parliamentary boundaries in Salford. This means the city will lose one of its parliamentary seats, with only one full constituency left in the city.
The remaining wards will be divided between Manchester and Leigh, meaning more than half of the city's wards will be represented in parliament by politicians who aren't based in Salford.
Irwell Riverside, Ordsall, Langworthy and Weaste and Seedley will be moved into the Manchester Central ward. Cadishead, Irlam, Little Hulton, Walkden North and Walkden South with be in the Leigh constituency.
Broughton and Kersal would remain in the Broughton and Blackley constituency.
The only constituency with all of its wards in Salford will be Swinton, which will consist of Barton, Boothstown and Ellenbrook, Claremont, Eccles, Pendlebury, Swinton North, Swinton South, Winton and Worsley.
On Wednesday 20 September 2011 the council voted unanimously to oppose the Boundary Commission's proposals which put 11 of the city's 20 wards in constituencies outside of Salford.
All political parties agreed that this was not good for a city with Salford's history and heritage. They also raised concerns that the politicians elected in these new wards would not fully understand the needs of the city's residents.
You can oppose the proposals on the Boundary Commission website or you can sign the online government petition.
