Older people - friendship
Friendship is good for your mental and physical health. It staves off feelings of isolation and loneliness, and can play a large part in staying independent at home. Having an active social life can also help you to improve your mood.
Here is a video of Roy, a service user, explaining how keeping busy and maintaining his social life has helped him.
What you can do for yourself:
- Learn a new skill
- Get involved in voluntary work
- Get a new job or get back to work
- Take up a new sport or exercise class - there is something for everyone, from healthy hips and hearts groups, through to kayaking at Salford Quays. Such information is listed on the Service Information Directory
- Learn to use a computer, to keep in touch with family whom you don’t see as often as you’d like
There are also some groups running in Salford where you can meet people with similar experiences and make friends. There are also lots of community centres across Salford, which offer a range of activities and sessions to help you get involved in your community, take part and meet new people.
