Blackleach Land Reclamation

Blackleach Country Park

The Landscape Design Group, alongside Engineering Design, created a new country park on the derelict site of a former chemical dye works and coal industry reservoir, successfully treating contamination to create a recreational open space. The scheme included:

  • Removal of exiting derelict buildings
  • Capping of chemical waste materials
  • Installation of bridges and pathways
  • Creation of new woodland areas
  • Remodelling of reservoir banks for fishing
  • Improved Health and Safety from derelict structures
  • Removal of chemical hot spots
  • Prevention of leaching of volatile compounds
  • Protection of existing ecosystems
  • Walking and picnic areas
  • The highest viewpoint in Salford
  • Far-reaching views to Jodrell Bank
  • Designated fishing areas
  • Wildlife observation
  • Extensive public consultation
  • Design and details
