Births, marriages and deaths
The Salford register office is located at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton.
The office is open from 8.30am to 5.00pm. For certificate requests, you must submit your application by 4.30pm at the latest.
The council is responsible for the registration of births, marriages and deaths, and the issuing of birth, marriage and death certificates, for the Salford registration district. We also conduct civil marriage ceremonies, including civil partnerships and marriages in licensed premises.

Following the replacement of the maternity unit at Salford Royal Teaching Hospital, with a midwifery-led birth centre, a special arrangement has been made to allow Salford residents whose babies are born in Manchester or Bolton, to register locally at the Salford register office.

Priority application service for certificates
Salford register office offer a priority service for applications for certificates. Where the certificate request is urgent, the application will be dealt with within 30 minutes for a supplement of £11.00 added to the certificate fee.
All other types of applications for certificates will be dealt with within five working days whether you choose to apply by post, by telephone with a debit/credit card or online. You may also choose to come into the office and complete an application and leave it with us to be dealt with within five working days for the standard certificate fee:
- Standard certificate fee £10.00 in person
- Standard certificate fee £11.00 by post or telephone (which includes £1.00 administration fee)
Requests for genealogy will be dealt with within five working days unless you choose to apply for the priority service to which a supplement of £11.00 will be added to the certificate fee. However, for genealogy requests on a priority service, we cannot complete searches, you must provide as a minimum the full name, year, quarter and district.
Family history certificate applications
Certificate applications received by this office will be searched on the basis of name, year, quarter and district of registration. We will verify parent(s) names if provided but no other additional information will be verified such as occupations, age and addresses before issuing the certificate. In each case where the name, year, quarter and district correspond with those given by the applicant a certificate will be issued and fee charged without exception.
Any correspondence received by this office without the appropriate certificate fee, enquiring about parentage or requesting any information that may be on a certificate, will not be verified and will be returned to the applicant.
A registrar will be at Broughton Hub each Wednesday to register births, deaths and take notices of marriage. Please telephone 0161 909 6501 to make an appointment if you wish to attend Broughton Hub.
Salford Royal University Teaching Hospital
For your convenience a registrar is now available each Tuesday, at the Pam Woods Suite within the bereavement centre, to register deaths which have occurred within the hospital. Please request an appointment at the bereavement centre when you visit the hospital.
Child and baby naming ceremonies
The register office can provide baby and child naming ceremonies.
Renewal of vows ceremonies
We also offer renewal of vows ceremonies for any couple who wish to celebrate their original vows made to one another.
Civil partnership ceremonies
Couples of the same sex may enter into the Civil Partnership Register. This is a legal procedure which allows same sex couples similar rights given to married couples.
Civil partnerships may take place at Salford register office or at one of our approved venues.
