Commencement of landlords requiring a licence to operate in a Selective Landlord Licensing area

Salford City Council hereby gives notice of the designation of Selective Landlord Licensing in accordance with The Housing Act 2004 for the Broughton area. This designation received approval from Communities and Local Government (CLG) on 28 July 2009. The designation will commence on 2 November 2009 and will last for five years.

Under the scheme, private landlords who rent out a property, which falls within this area, will be required to apply for a licence.

After 2 November 2009, anyone found managing an unlicensed property in the selective area will be liable to pay a fine of up to £20,000.

The area to be covered by the Selective Licensing designation is the area north of Great Cheetham Street West. The bordering streets of the designated area are St James Road, Highclere Avenue, Winterford Road, Marsland Street, Orient Street, Great Cheetham Street East, Tetlow Lane, Northumberland Street and Bury New Road.
