Minimising trade waste through recycling

The city council has a trade waste recycling service for those customers who have a signed trade waste collection contract with the council. If you would like to discuss your options for recycling please contact Beverley Lydiate on 0161-925 1012, email beverley.lydiate@salford.gov.uk or visit our recycling pages.
Reducing waste paper
Almost all companies use paper. By implementing some or all of these easy actions you can start making small savings that will soon add up. Why not try:
- only print where necessary, and if possible, use both sides of the paper.
- we not only collect clean office paper but also junk mail, white envelopes, catalogues, telephone directories etc.
- make paper-recycling bins widely available to staff and label them clearly. We can supply internal paper bins to existing customers - please ring for details
- speak to your supplier about the difference in cost of using recycled paper - make a commitment to your environment!
Reducing waste on packaging
If you receive packaged goods it is your responsibility to dispose of that packaging. There is strict legislation, with which it is important to comply for companies that handle packaging. Here are some tips for reducing packaging waste:
- ask your suppliers to use reusable packaging where possible.
- avoid contaminating packaging with other materials, such as glue, so that the packaging can be recycled more easily.
- try to design packaging so that the components can easily be segregated for reuse or recycling.
- re-use materials such as bubble wrap, boxes, pallets and crates for regular deliveries.
