Licensing Act 2003

New legislation affecting certain types of licensing has recently been enacted.

If you hold, or intend to hold any of the following licences you need to comply with new licensing laws:

  • Alcohol (on and off licences)
  • Public entertainment (annual or occasional)
  • Theatre
  • Cinema
  • Late night refreshment
  • Registered members' clubs

The legislation changes previous laws about the type of licences needed to provide any of the above functions.

More about the the new legislation

Salford City Council is also responsible for the licensing of car boot sales, blue badges, game dealers, butchers and fairs and events along with many other functions of licensing. Though these are not dealt with by the Licensing team you will find any details you require on this web site.

The Licensing team also handles any complaints or concerns you may have about taxi drivers or charitable collections. Our office is open to the public between the hours of 8.30am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.

If you require any guidance or advice regarding the full range of licences issued by the Licensing team please contact our licensing officers who will be happy to help.

The team is based at Turnpike House 631 Eccles New Road Salford and deals with applications, transfers and variations of licences. On many licences consultation takes place with other agencies before a licence can be issued.

Before contacting the licensing team please use the A-Z of licensing and permits to find the required license and contact the appropriate team.
