Licence to sell alcohol
The Licensing Act 2003 came into force on 6 February 2005. It made changes to the licensing arrangements for the sale of alcohol and the provision of entertainment.
Whereas previous an application to sell alcohol would be heard by the local magistrates court, the local licensing authority is now the appropriate local council. For the city of Salford the authority is therefore this council.
If you are a local resident or business and wish to comment about an advertised licensing application or register a complaint about an existing establishment, additional information is available by following the highlighted links above.
Current and future licences and licence applications
All existing licences, and the current licensing arrangements for the sale of alcohol and the provision of entertainment, will cease to have effect on 24 November 2005.
Premises licence
When you apply you will need to produce an operating schedule to show how the premises will be managed in accordance with the licensing objectives.
If you have an existing licence it will expire on 24 November 2005 so you must have a new licence in place before then. To apply for a premises licences see How to make an application. Licence applications can take several weeks to process so you should apply for the licence well before the deadline.
If you have an existing licence and want to make changes to come into effect before 24 November 2005: you need to apply under the current system i.e. Licensing Justices for liquor licences and Salford City Council Council for entertainment licences etc. Any new licence granted will expire on 24 November 2005. View more information about premises licences.
If you are applying for an entirely new licence which you want to be effective before 24 November 2005: you need to apply under the current system, that is, the licensing justices for liquor licences and Salford City Council for entertainment licences etc. Any new licence granted will expire on 24 November 2005.
Personal licences
Persons supervising premises where alcohol is supplied will need a personal licence after 24 November 2005. Applications must be made to the licensing authority in whose area you live. If you live in the Salford City Council's area, view personal licence information.
