Scrap Metal
The Vehicle (Crime) Act 2001 and the Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 require that all persons or businesses defined by the Act as a Motor Salvage Operator, to register with their local authority. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964 requires that all persons or businesses defined by the Act as a Scrap Metal Dealer, to register with their local authority. Here, you will find all the necessary information to guide you through the application process.
If you are either a Motor Salvage Operator or a Scrap Metal Dealer (as defined by the relevant Acts) then you must register with the local authority where you are conducting the business. Failure to do so is a criminal offence and subject to a fine.
There is a fee to register for three years as a Motor Salvage Operator. This fee is used to finance the administration of the registration procedure and is currently £85.00 (effective 1st April 2004).
There is no fee to register as a Scrap Metal Dealer.
Important: please ensure that your application is accompanied in person by two means of identification e.g. Passport ,Photo Driving License, Birth Certificate to our offices at the address below.
