How to pay your rates
There are several ways in which you can pay your business rate account. However, the easiest method is to pay by direct debit.
As well as paying by direct debit you can also pay online when using this web site's secure payments facility, by credit or debit card over the telephone, through the BACS system, at any UK Post Office or “PayPoint” outlet or by sending your payment by post. This page tells you what you need to do.
Direct debit
Many of our customers find that the most convenient and reliable way to pay their bill is by monthly direct debit. Once set up with your bank, payments are collected automatically, on the due dates. Also, if you decide to pay by this method, your payments are covered by the direct debit guarantee. To set up a direct debit, please telephone 0161 793 3390.
Online payments
Salford City Council operates a secure online payments service where you can pay your business rates account online using debit or credit cards. You will need to quote your business rates account number (an eight figure number starting with 6) to access the service.
Debit and credit cards
You can telephone 0161 793 3390 during office hours and speak to a member of staff who will assist you if you wish to make a payment by using your debit or credit card.
Automated payments service
If you prefer, you can use our automated telephone payment service on 0161 793 3325 which is available 24 hours a day.
Post Office
You can make a payment
by at the Post Office by presenting your bar coded bill with your payment. Payment at the Post Office
may be made by debit card, cheque (made payable to “Post Office Limited”) or in cash.
This
is a free service.
PayPoint outlets
Payments can also be made at any PayPoint outlet in the UK using your bar coded bill, however, only cash is accepted at a PayPoint outlet.
Payzone
You can make a payment at any Payzone outlet by presenting your business rate bill or orange payment card with your cash payment to the retailer.

Please quote the following bank details for Salford City Council:
- Sort code 08 90 00
- Account number 61191259
- Your business rates account number (an eight-figure number starting with a 6)
Postal payments
If you wish to pay by cheque please write your account number on the back of your cheque made payable to ‘Salford City Council’ and post it to the Strategic Director of Customer & Support Services, Salford City Council, Unity House, Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5AW. Receipts are not normally issued for postal payments, but if you do require one please enclose a stamped, addressed envelope with your payment.
