Can I foster?

Our foster carers come from diverse backgrounds and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community. Foster carers can be married, single, divorced, separated, living together, gay or heterosexual.

You can foster if you:

  • Are aged 21 or older
  • Have a spare room
  • Are willing to have a health check from your GP
  • Are willing to have a police check for serious offences
  • Have time and energy to look after children
  • Are able to work with professionals involved in a child's case
  • Are mature, caring and committed to making a difference to children in need

If you're not sure whether you're suitable or not, visit our frequently asked questions for more information.

There are different types of fostering, you can choose a scheme which best suits you.

Words from foster carers

“I thought I couldn’t afford to give up my job to foster, but the risk paid off and I’m no worse off…but now my home and heart is full too”

“My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner”

We'd love to hear from you!
