New children’s hospital (Oxford Road)
The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital at Pendlebury has now closed and all the services have been moved.
The New Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on Oxford Road, Manchester opened in June 2009. The new hospital provides:
- an integrated paediatric service
- the latest medical equipment and information technology
- a play centre, schooling, family accommodation and adolescent facilities to cater for the needs of the whole family
There is a Paediatric Emergency Department (A&E) at the new Children’s Hospital on Oxford Road.
A larger Paediatric Intensive Care Unit has also moved to the new Children’s Hospital from Pendlebury, admitting patients from premature babies to 16 year olds.
There is a new service called PANDA (Paediatric Assessment and Decision Area) at Salford Royal Hospital, which enables children to be observed for up to 24hours.
The Children’s Out-Patient Department has moved to Pendleton Gateway in Salford. Some specialist out-patient clinics and in-patient services have moved to the new Children’s Hospital.
