Children in entertainment
Licensing of children in entertainment
Under the Children and Young Persons Act 1963 and Children (Performances) Regulations 1968, Salford City Council is responsible for the licensing of all school aged children who appear in a performance either on the stage or on television, who take part in certain sporting activities, or who work as models.
Application for licences usually come from the agency who is responsible for the children's entertainment placement.
Licences will be granted if the authority is satisfied that all relevant conditions are met and that all applicable information has been provided.
The pupil's school may veto the issuing of the licence if they think it will prejudice the education of that pupil.
Licensing of matrons/chaperones
Under Section 37 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1963 and the Children (Performances) Regulations 1968, a Matron or chaperone must be appointed to look after any child of school age taking part in a public performance, so if you would like to apply, please download the form now.
When you have completed the form, you will need see a member of our Advice Team who will verify that you have provided the documentation required to support your application.
The Local Authority will then carry out checks on anyone applying to become a Matron or chaperone through the Criminal Records Bureau, and a licence will only be issued when the relevant clearance has been confirmed.
