Claremont and Weaste

Claremont and Weaste is historically a residential area, but has many things to offer. The area is made up of two wards - Claremont, and Weaste and Seedley. Statistical information about these wards can be viewed by clicking on the ward names.

Leisure

St Luke's Church in Weaste is Grade 2 listed, which puts it among the top 10% of buildings in England. Prominent because of its position and its slender, continental-style spire, it stands on a small green hill beside Liverpool Street - and is known locally as "the church on the hill".

Claremont/Weaste is notable for its parks. Buile Hill Park - the city's flagship park - is situated within the area, as are Lightoaks and Oakwood Parks. Clarendon, Eccles and Pendlebury Fit City leisure centres, and the Watersports Centre at Salford Quays are close to the area.

The Willows ground of Salford Reds Rugby League Football Club and the adjoining Willows variety club are located in Weaste (the Salford City Reds rugby team will be moving to Barton in the near future, with a brand new stadium opposite Barton Aerodrome).  

There are libraries at Hope (corner of Eccles Old Road and Stott Lane) and at the Height (King Street). Your local library now has more than just books to offer - find out about the new online library facilities.

Part of Irlams o'th Height is designated as a conservation area.

Within a very short distance of the area, there are many other attractions of national importance, such as the Imperial War Museum North, The Lowry, Manchester United FC, the Trafford Centre and Manchester City Centre.

Shopping

Eccles, Salford and Swinton Precincts are all accessible as is Salford Quays. There is local shopping along Bolton Road at the Height, on Eccles Old Road, Liverpool Street and elsewhere. The West One retail development is at the south-west tip of the area close to Eccles Centre.

Public transport

There are many bus services running from Manchester, through the area to various destinations. The Metrolink tram service runs along Eccles New Road.

Other

There is a large area of service and other industries between Eccles New Road and the Manchester Ship Canal.
