Construction jobs

Employment for local people and economic benefits for local businesses are a key focus of the PSP programme and the impact is already being felt before MediaCityUK is even complete! The PSP team have been working with Salford Construction Partnership and Skills and Work to maximise the job opportunities for the city's residents and businesses.
Peel’s construction partners, Bovis Lend Lease, produce a monthly local impact report, highlighting the benefits of the MediaCityUK construction to local people and businesses. The latest figures (as of October 2009) show that:
- £106 million awarded to Salford contractors
- 52% of all contracts awarded to Greater Manchester contractors
- 78% of the workforce are from the Northwest region
- 51% of the workforce reside in Greater Manchester
- 12% of the workforce reside in Salford
- 2,143 people involved in training in October
- 31,917 people involved in training to date
- 1,669 students involved in the project to date
- 221 technical trainees (apprentices) currently working on the project
Bovis Lend Lease have won the 2010 Greater Manchester Employer Coalition (GMEC) Corporate Friend award for its ground-breaking partnership work with Salford City Council, Central Salford URC and Peel Media. This partnership has ensured that local people and businesses have benefitted from the construction work at MediaCityUK and will continue to do so for years to come through improved skills, training and business connections.
