Consultations and feedback
Between December 2006 and March 2007 we staged a major public consultation exercise to provide as many people as possible with the chance to find out more about the park and give their ideas and comments.
Just over 1500 people gave their feedback at one of over 50 consultation events and activities.
84% of the people who completed questionnaires felt it was important to improve the river and surrounding area.
Key themes that emerged from the consultation were that Irwell City Park should:
- Connect communities and create greater community cohesion and pride
- Be a safe, well maintained green environment
- Provide new leisure and recreational activities to encourage people to visit and use the area
- Improve community health and wellbeing
- Enhance the educational opportunities in the area
- Be accessible to everyone
- Provide appropriate facilities such as seating and toilets
- Improve the environment and conserve wildlife
- Create new pedestrian and commuter routes linking Salford, Manchester and Trafford
- Enhance and promote the rich heritage of the river and surrounding area

To give people the opportunity to find out more about the final bid that was submitted to the Big Lottery, we held a number of exhibitions. These took place at various locations over the summer and people were able to view the proposed designs for Irwell City Park and speak to members of the team. In addition, the film which was produced for the bid was shown on the big BBC screen in Manchester to give even more people a chance to see the proposals for Irwell City Park.
