Sign up to pay your council tax by Direct Debit

To sign up for a Direct Debit you must have a council tax account. If you haven’t yet registered, or you need to tell us you have moved, see our I am moving page.

There are two Direct Debit options to pick from depending on your circumstances.

If you've received either a normal bill, reminder notice or final notice:

Request a Direct Debit to be set up

If you've received a court summons or a Liability Order notice letter:

Request a Special Arrangement Direct Debit to be set up

Make a change to your Direct Debit

If you want to change the date or the bank account that your Direct Debit payments are taken from, please just complete a new Sign up for Direct Debit.

Why you should set up a Direct Debit

It’s the quickest, safest and easiest way to pay and means you won’t have to worry about late payments, reminders or summons. It also helps keep our print and postage costs down so we can spend our limited funds in more effective ways to help residents.

To set up your Direct Debit, you will need your council tax reference number along with your bank account number and sort code.

The benefits of Direct Debit

  • Choose from four Direct Debit dates of 1, 5, 15 and 25 of each month.
  • No need to remember to make a payment (one less thing to worry about!)
  • If your annual bill changes, the monthly payment amount will automatically update
  • There's no postage to pay
  • It saves queuing up in the Post Office or corner shop
  • You're covered by the Direct Debit guarantee scheme offered by your bank
