Manchester: Knowledge Capital
Ideas, entrepreneurship and expertise are the factors key to tomorrow’s prosperity.
The Manchester: Knowledge Capital initiative aims to develop and foster these elements in Greater Manchester, making the area a dynamic and sustainable economic powerhouse centred on knowledge and new ideas. Working in Partnership with Manchester City Council and other regional bodies, Salford is a key participant in the initiative.
Situated on ‘Manchester’s Left Bank’, Salford brings many assets to Manchester: Knowledge Capital, from its waterways and cultural infrastructure to its world-class university and a tradition of creativity and innovation. The city and its people have a significant contribution to make in creating and spreading wealth, opportunity and, most of all, knowledge, across the conurbation and beyond, helping to create a new prosperity for England’s Northwest.
A key feature of the initiative is the ‘arc of opportunity’, an area stretching along The Crescent, past the University of Salford campus, along Chapel Street and into Manchester city centre. Within Salford, the arc contains both academic excellence (specialising in enterprise development) and a dynamic business location with a special emphasis on cultural and knowledge economy business.
