IEG 5
Every local authority is required to submit an annual “Implementing Electronic Government” (IEG) statement to central government.
These statements are used to assess how well each local authority is doing in delivering e-Government against the government's 2005 deadline for e-enablement of council services and to review how the authority it making progress against the delivery of the ODPM's ‘Priority Outcomes and Transformation Areas’.
The statement also details the potential net efficiency gains that the Council has forecast it could achieve following the implementation of e-government solutions.

What does e-Government mean to Salford?
Salford’s e-Government programme is making a real and lasting difference to citizens, communities and businesses, and in the management and organisational effectiveness and efficiency of the council.
We announced in April 2005 that we had achieved 100% compliance with the Government's best value performance indicator #157, meaning that over 760 service transactions are now operational across a variety of access channels.
As for the overall position on Priority Service Outcomes, all of the 'required' targets are now successfully completed and the 'good' targets actively in hand.
The IEG5 return illustrates the detailed progress on our continuing e-Government work, but in many ways the e-Government programme is evolving into the mainstream of service planning, management and delivery and is seen less and less as a programme of work.
To illustrate the difference e-Government is making and how it is becoming embedded we have picked out a few of our recent success stories under the following five key headings:
- Improving front-line service delivery and choice
- Improving organisational efficiency, innovation and management
- Enabling greater democratic engagement and scrutiny
- Supporting community development
- Supporting economic regeneration
