Lead Members
There are eight councillors who are known as 'lead members' with responsibility for different services. Together with the Leader of the Council and his deputy, these councillors are collectively known as' The Cabinet'.
Cabinet members (who all belong to the political party with the majority of seats on the council) make decisions on services within the council’s policies and budgets.
Some cabinet members also have a special portfolio of responsibility covering "cross-cutting issues" which involve more than one service and these are indicated in the table below.
| Lead member | Responsible for | Cross-cutting portfolio |
|---|---|---|
| Derek Antrobus | Planning | |
| Peter Connor | Housing | |
| Bill Hinds | Customer and Support Services | Implementation of the Gershon Report. |
| Maureen Lea | Community Services and Health | Asylum seekers and refugees |
| Keith Mann | Environment | |
| Joe Murphy | Service Development / Neighbourhoods | |
| John Warmisham | Children's Services | |
| Barry Warner | Culture and Sport |
