Councillor Margaret Ann Morris was born in Eccles and is one of seven brothers and sisters. She attended both St. Mary’s R.C. and All Saints RC Schools.

Councillor Margaret Morris has worked in Salford for many years, both as a nurse and as a member of various groups. She trained in the Army as a Nurse and has worked in the NHS in Salford since 1969.

The Mayor has been a member of many organisations over the years and to this present day:

  • Elected to the Council in May 1991
  • Deputy Chair of Social Services from 1996 – 1998
  • Support member for Environmental Services and Planning
  • Governor, and former Chair, of Barton Moss School since 1987 to present
  • Chair of the CHC in 1997

The Mayor is a widow and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, swimming and spending time in her caravan in Wales.

The ‘Themes’ which the Mayor and Mayoress are going to support this year are raising the aspirations of all young people to enable them to reach their potential in whatever field of employment they want to work.

The Mayor has chosen to support the following charities during her term of office:

Tim Parry Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace
This Foundation for Peace inspires people to lead more peaceful lives by participating in educational programmes. This enables them to better understand conflict and by doing so to reduce or eliminate violence from conflict situations affecting them. It helps people of all races, faiths and nations to understand the causes, management and non-violent resolution of conflict. The Foundation’s sole purpose is to help reconcile people through safe and structured dialogue within carefully designed learning programmes, catering for the needs of all age groups.

The Feryal Raja Educational Trust
This Trust was established in 1996 as a memorial to Feryal Rajah, a well known and much respected doctor and wife of the Leader of Salford City Council, Councillor John Merry. The aim of the trust is to help women in Salford pursue careers in medicine and allied professions, providing training facilities, the provision of grants, advice and information.

The Salfordian Trust
This hotel is run by the Salfordian Trust and provides holiday breaks, primarily for older residents of Salford, although other guests are also welcome. The hotel can cater for guests with limited or impaired mobility, however it should be noted that there is no nursing or medical care.
