Pledge 3: Encouraging learning, leisure and creativity in Salford
We will raise education and skill levels and further enhance cultural and leisure opportunities.
This will be achieved by
- Raising the educational attainment of children, young people and adults in the city
- Providing better quality schools and leisure facilities
- Promoting independence for people through education, training and employment
- Encouraging more people to participate in a range of sport, culture and learning activities
- Promoting the city for major cultural, sporting and leisure events
Headline targets for 2007/2008
- 65% of pupils taking GCSE's in 2007 to achieve 5+ A*-C
- To increase the usage of Salford's museums and art galleries by a further 5% from 743 per 1,000 population to 780 per 1,000 population
- Increase Salford Community Leisure's Society membership by 10%
- Increase attendance at Fit City centres by 1.1%
- Establish a database of 80 sports events volunteers
- Raise the percentage of school leavers from Salford schools:
- going into full time education to 70%
- going into further learning post 16 to 86%
- going into work based training to 17%
