Pledge 4: Investing in young people in Salford

We will focus on services, activities and opportunities to support children and young people in achieving their full potential.
This will be achieved by
- Encouraging greater engagement with young people on issues that affect their lives
- Providing services and facilities to meet the needs of young people
- Improving the life chances of young people by supporting them and their families
Headline targets for 2007/2008
- From 31 March 2007 achieve a 3% reduction in the number of looked after children
- Increase the percentage of 5-16 year olds engaged in 2 hours a week minimum of high quality PE and school sport to at least 75% by 2008
- Reduce the percentage of young people leaving school who are known not to be in education, employment or training from 8.2% as at November 2006 to 7.6% by November 2007
- To increase the numbers of children aged 0-4 who join a library by 10% and to increase the numbers of children accessing Bookstart from 89% to 91% across Salford
