Cycling Commission

At a meeting of Environment, Housing and Planning Scrutiny, members considered a request from the Salford Cycle Forum to look at the possibility of supporting the creation of a cycling officer in Sallford.

Members of the committee supported the need to have a dedicated resource in Salford, to promote events such as "in town without my car day", activities such as the organised rides in the country parks, and initiatives such as the cycle2work scheme and also to provide advice and guidance on cycling matters.

It was agreed to have a short term commission to investigate; what is currently being done to support cycling in Salford and elsewhere, and what could be done to make the most of the potential benefits cycling brings for employees and for the general public.

The first meeting of the commission was held on Tuesday 15 April and it was agreed to meet with external agencies, partners and internal officers to gather research and evidence for the piece of work.  A copy of the action sheet from this meeting can be downloaded below.

You may be aware since the last meeting the election results have meant we have lost Councillors Salmon and Broughton from the commission membership and we have had to recruit new members. The delay and availability of members means the next major commission meeting will be in August but officers are continuing to progress research and gather information.

The next meeting is to be arranged
