Making it Better, Making it Real
NHS Consultation on Children’s, Neonatal and Maternity Services
During 2006 proposals were developed to improve healthcare services for children, young people, parents and babies across Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and High peak and Rossendale, affecting some 3.1 million people.
Public consultation on the changes to these healthcare services was undertaken via the Making it Better consultation document.
The Children’s Services and Community, Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committees have looked at the proposals objectively and determined what option is best for the children and families of Salford. In order to submit a response to The Making it Better Joint Health Scrutiny Committee, the statutory consultee. A copy of the response from the scrutiny committees is available below.
In December 2006, the Making it Better Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts approved option A, in respect of the proposals.
The Community, Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee agreed to refer these proposals to the secretary of state, on the grounds that they are not in the best interests of local health services.
A copy of the letter of referral is available below. The independent and reconfiguration panel (the body responsible for considering the referral) is currently looking at these issues and is due to report its findings in the summer of this year.
