The city council is keen to encourage members of the public to join in and find out more about how local democracy works.

Duties of the Electoral Registration Canvasser
On appointment you will be allocated an area (polling district) to canvass. An average size polling district contains 600–700 properties which you will be responsible for canvassing.

An Electoral Registration Canvasser's main duties are to:

  • assist the Electoral Registration Officer in the compilation of a register of Parliamentary and local government electors;
  • must attend training/briefing session as and when required;
  • deliver a pre-printed canvass form to all addresses within your allocated area;
  • deliver a pre-printed canvass reminder form to all those households who have not responded to the initial delivery; and to make house-to-house inquires to properties where no annual canvass form has been returned.

The rates of pay for these duties are as follows:

  1. 17p per posted form (1st stage)
  2. 17p per second reminder form (2nd stage)
  3. £1 per signed form, 25p per non signed form (3rd stage)
