Results for the Eccles by-election: 25 November 2004

Jane Margaret Murphy has added to Labour's majority on Salford City Council, by winning the Eccles by-election for the party, held on 25 November 2004

Ms Murphy polled 842 votes. The by-election was brought about by the death of  Liberal Democrat Peter Hayes.

The Labour gain has no effect on the party's overall control. They now hold 44 of Salford's 60 city council seats. The Conservatives hold eight, the Liberal Democrats seven, and there is one vacant seat.
