At a glance summary - capital investment

In addition to the money the council spends on day-to-day services as reflected in the revenue budget, the council also invests for the future in its buildings and infrastructure. A provisional capital programme of works costing approximately £114.8m has been drawn up which is expected to attract Governments grants and other external funding in the region of £68.1m. The balance of costs will be met from income of approximately £34m generated from the disposal of surplus assets (capital receipts) with the balance to be met from borrowing. The cost of the repayments on the amount borrowed has been included in the revenue budget within the capital financing service. A summary of the type of schemes included in this year’s programme and the proposed funding is shown below:
