Best value: improving services and managing performance

Public service agreements, local strategic partnerships, performance indicators....there's a lot of jargon in local government. Put simply, best value is a process that ensures the city council provides the public services local people want, and at a price they want to pay. The Government places a duty on individual local authorities to regularly review their services and set challenging targets for raising standards and delivering service improvements.

Every year the council has to report its progress to local people by producing a best value performance plan (often referred to as a "BVPP").

Corporate Plan 2008 - 2011

This year Salford City Council has developed a Corporate Plan. The Plan highlights just some of Salford City Council’s key achievements in the last 12 months and sets out our priorities and areas for improvement between 2008 and 2011.  In the plan you can find out about how the council will deliver on the things that are important to the people of Salford and to our partners across the city. The Plan also confirms that all individual contracts awarded during the past year which involved a transfer of staff comply, where applicable, with the requirements in the Code of Practice on Workforce Matters in Local Authority Service Contracts (as required by government).
