Community safety and crime reduction

Together we are cutting crime!
Crime prevention partners in Salford, including the police and Salford City Council, are working with communities to reduce crime.
Our efforts in the last year have led to substantial year on year reductions in crime. The latest crime figures show a reduction of 15.4% in recorded crime in the year between April 2009 and March 2010 compared to the same period in 2008/09. This means there were 4,081 fewer offences and victims of crime.
The biggest reductions have been in the areas of:
- Serious violent crime, with 56 fewer offences, a reduction of 21.1% on previous year
- Criminal damage and arson, with 1,027 fewer offences, a reduction of 17.3% on last year
- Vehicle crime where we achieved a 18.4% reduction with 845 fewer offences compared to last year
Other crimes that have been reduced include robbery, sexual assaults and less serious assaults. (Source: Office North West)
Councillor David Lancaster, Salford City Council's lead member for Community Safety said: "These figures are really encouraging for those working hard to fight crime and anti-social behaviour. Many communities have been involved in supporting our activities and operations, sending out a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in our city".
