Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2011

What is a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment?

Under the Childcare Act 2006, Salford City Council has a duty to make sure there is sufficient childcare provision in the city to enable parents to work, or undertake education and training leading to work. In support of this duty, we are required to carry out regular assessments looking at childcare supply and demand in the area. This is called a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA). The assessment helps us to identify if any gaps exist in the childcare market. By working closely with our partners we will be able to plan how to address these gaps.

Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2011

The Childcare Sufficiency Assessment 2011 is now complete. The final version of the report is available to download below. Other downloadable documents include a two-page summary of the report and a separate analysis document which captures parents' views on childcare in Salford.

As part of the CSA process, a consultation exercise was conducted between 9 February and 1 March 2011. The assessment documents were available online for all members of the community to view and share their feedback with us.

We asked if the assessment was a fair reflection of the childcare market in Salford and if our understanding of any gaps in the market matched your views. The feedback received from the consultation will help inform future planning of childcare services in the city.

If you would like to speak to someone about the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment or the consultation please contact Karen Carney, Information Manager, on 0161 778 0307 or email karen.carney@salford.gov.uk.
