There are several cycling events taking place over the summer which you can get involved in.
Summer of Cycling
The Summer of Cycling is a national campaign running between March and September which aims to encourage more people to cycle. People with an interest in cycling are being asked to encourage one friend to cycle. The hope is to double cycling over this period.
There will be a number of events running across Greater Manchester to support the Summer of Cycling, including:
Greater Manchester Cycle Challenge
The Greater Manchester cycle challenge is a fun free competition where workplaces compete to see who can get the most people cycling. The challenge runs until Tuesday 5 June. Participants who record their cycle trips of ten minutes or more will be entered into a prize draw.
Bike Week 2012
Bike Week is the UK's largest cycling event, last year around 500,000 people took part in events across the country. To find an event close to you visit the Bike Week website.
Cycle maintenance and training
If you need to improve your cycling skills or need to have your bike repaired, free Dr Bike maintenance sessions and adult cycle training courses are available. Further information is available via the Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) website.
Lancashire Outdoor Group cycle rides
Lancashire Outdoor Group have organised two guided cycle rides. The rides are free and there is no need to sign up, just arrive and ride with the group. Further information can be downloaded below.

BLUC cycle locker scheme
The Bike Locker User Club (BLUC) cycle locker scheme allows anyone who has joined to leave their bike in a BLUC locker. These are situated in convenient locations throughout Greater Manchester, such as at train stations, bus stations, Metrolink stops and in city centres. For locker locations, dimensions and application forms please visit the Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) website.
Currently there are no BLUC lockers in Salford. The city council is working with TFGM to identify suitable locations for sites.

The city council's cycling strategy can be downloaded below. It is currently being revised with more information to follow soon.
