Needs assessment
Each year Salford DAAT is required to produce a needs assessment for adults and a separate one for young people. A needs assessment is a systematic evidenced based method of informing service provision in order to reduce the harms associated with substance misuse. It is part of a strategic process aimed at examining what the relative needs and harms are within different groups in Salford.
The key questions our needs assessments aim to answer are:
- What do we know about our drug using populations?
- What do we know about our problematic drug using population?
- (Home Office definition of a problematic drug user is 'heroin and / or crack cocaine user')
- What do we know about our “treatment system”
- What are the most significant gaps / areas of unmet need?
