Links for young people
FRANK
FRANK is the national drugs information helpline for young people, parents and carers. This site provides information about specific drugs, the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body, and links to service providers. The site includes fun activities to aid readers' learning and allows readers to contact staff at FRANK.
Ala-teen
Ala-teen is part of the Al-Anon fellowship and is for young people, aged twelve to seventeen (inclusive), who are affected by a problem drinker. Ala-teen members share their ideas and experience in order to gain a better understanding of alcoholism; they learn to accept it as an illness and so lessen its impact on their lives. By removing their preoccupation with the drinker's behaviour they are able to focus on their own development and sense of identity.
WUU2
WUU2 is a website, designed by young people across the city, with information on places to go, things to do and people to talk to. If you are 13 to 19 and want to know what's going on, this is the link for you. The site also includes an information directory provided by Salford Children's Information Project.

Bolton Know Cocaine
You can use this website to help you stop or cut down your cocaine use. The course begins with five steps. You record how much cocaine you have used in the past week. You make lists of the pros and cons of your cocaine use and set yourself targets and goals.
Daily Dose
Daily Dose was launched in January 2001 and is the world's leading news service on drug and alcohol misuse. The website is updated daily at approximately 9.00am and provides links to a range of relevant material from specialist organisations and the popular media from around the world.
DrugScope
DrugScope is the UK's leading independent centre of expertise on drugs. Drugscope's aim is to inform policy development and reduce drug-related risk. Drugscope provides quality drug information, promotes effective responses to drug taking, undertakes research at local, national and international levels, advises on policy-making, encourages informed debate and speaks for its member organisations working on the ground.
HIT
HIT delivers effective interventions on drugs, community safety and other public health concerns. They produce publications, run mass media campaigns, deliver training, organise conferences and provide consultancy to individuals, community groups, health and social care and criminal justice agencies locally, nationally and at an international level.
Alcohol Concern
Alcohol Concern is the national agency on alcohol misuse. They work to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems. They provide information and encourage debate on the wide range of public policy issues affected by alcohol; including public health, housing, children and families, crime and licensing. They support specialist and non-specialist service providers, helping to tackle alcohol problems at a local level, whilst also working to influence national alcohol policy.

Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust
Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of mental health, specialist and drug and alcohol services. They provide a range of inpatient and outpatient services across 50 sites in the Greater Manchester area.
Lifeline
Lifeline Project is a well-established, voluntary sector agency that provides a range of drug and alcohol services for adults and young people. In 1971 the Lifeline Project opened a day centre for drug users in Manchester. From this foundation Lifeline has grown and developed, responding to the ever-increasing problems associated with drug use faced by individuals, families and communities. Lifeline manages the SMART young people's substance misuse service in Salford.
Salford Carers (provided by Princess Royal Trust)
The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in the UK. Salford Carers Centre provides advice and information, support groups, carer training, grants, and a Young Carers Service.
adfam
adfam is the leading national organisation working with and for families affected by drugs and alcohol. adfam provide direct support to families through publications, training, prison visitors' centres, outreach work and signposting to local support services. This website has been created to provide families with information to help them deal with the problems they face on a daily basis.
Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem - recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. Narcotics Anonymous is a completely voluntary organisation. Membership is open to anyone with a drug problem seeking help, regardless of what drug or combination of drugs have been used, and irrespective of age, sex, religion, race, creed or class. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using drugs.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; they are self-supporting through their own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. AA's primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
Al-Anon
Al-Anon Family Groups provide understanding, strength and hope to anyone whose life is, or has been, affected by someone else's drinking. The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve their common problems. Al-Anon believes alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organisation or institution; does not engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any cause.
Parents Using Drugs
A partnership site, produced by The Children's Society, for young people whose parents use drugs, and also for adults who work with young people. The site provides information and advice for young people aged 4 to 10, and 11 to 21, in two separate sub-sites.

This website provides drugs professionals with the latest news and guidance from government about the drug strategy. This site is a sub site of the main Home Office website and provides useful links to supporting activity.
Greater Manchester Police
This is the official website of Greater Manchester Police. This police force covers ten divisions across Greater Manchester including Salford. It provides information regarding activity across the force, contact details for local policing teams and crime prevention advice.
Community Safety Unit
This link will take to Salford's Community Safety Unit web page. The Community Safety Unit drives the activity of the Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and provides strategic support and project management to assist in the delivery of crime and disorder reduction targets. The team comprises council officers and a police officer.
Home Office
The Home Office is the government department responsible for leading the national effort to protect the public from terrorism, crime and anti-social behaviour. Their work is organised around seven objectives, which contribute to their overriding mission to protect the public. This site explains how they are working to turn that vision into reality, as well as introducing their department and its many and varied constituent parts.
National Treatment Agency (NTA)
The National Treatment Agency is a special health authority, created by the government in 2001 to improve the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for drug misuse in England. In other words, to ensure that there is more treatment, better treatment and fairer treatment available to all those who need it.
Salford Primary Care Trust
Salford Primary Care Trust are responsible for: improving the health of people who live in Salford; developing and providing primary and community health services; securing the provision of high quality services from local hospitals and other care providers.
Public Health Observatory for the North West (PHONW)
The PHONW fulfils a regional public health information and intelligence function supporting the work of public health professionals, local authorities and providers of healthcare and other services relevant to health of the North West population. This site provides detailed information about several areas of public health.
National Offender Management Service (NOMS)
NOMS is the system through which the government aims to commission and provide the highest quality correctional services and interventions in order to protect the public and reduce re-offending. By 2010, NOMS aims to have made a significant reduction in re-offending rates.
Probation Service
The National Probation Service is a law enforcement agency and public authority. This is a partnership website for Practioners, Sentencers and Offenders and explains the role of the Probation Service and its responsibilities to protect the public and demonstrate effective working with offenders.

Supporting People funds and delivers high quality, housing-related support services which are cost effective and reliable. The planning and development of services is based upon the needs of local people. The website includes a directory of local services.
Housing Connections Partnership
Housing Connections Partnership has been created to deliver a wide range of housing support services to residents and housing organisations across Salford and beyond.
