DisabledGo - web guide for disabled people

An online guide designed to empower Salford's disabled residents to get out and do what they want to do is available.

The web-based information service will spill the beans about access to hundreds of shops, pubs, restaurants, cinemas and other public venues for people with hearing-, vision- or mobility-related access concerns.

Launched in 2003 to coincide with the European Year of Disabled People, DisabledGo is an ambitious internet-based service which will transform the daily choices available to millions of disabled people, their families and friends. Founded by 32 year old wheelchair user Gregory Burke and supported by Marks & Spencer and leading local authorities, this innovative service is opening up towns and cities across the UK.

By logging on to DisabledGo people can check, for example, whether a pub is accessible to a wheelchair user, whether a cinema can offer a hearing loop, whether a hotel offers adapted rooms, or whether a restaurant welcomes assistance dogs and offers menus in large print or Braille.
