The Electoral Registration Officer has a duty to publish the Register of Electors.
Certain organisations and individuals are entitled by law to receive a copy of the register either when it is published or on request. By following the links below you can find out who has the information.
The supply of the Register of Electors to the organisations and individuals listed is governed by the Representation of the People Regulations 2001, except supply to the Court Service where entitlement arises from the Juries Act 1974.
Entitlement of the electoral register when requested
The following organisations and individuals are entitled to a copy of the electoral register on request
- Elected representatives (including MPs, MEPs, local councillors) within Salford City Council
- Holders of relevant elective offices within the meaning of Paragraph 1(8), Schedule 7 of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000
- Candidates for elections at a parliamentary or local government election
- Local constituency parties
- Registered political parties
- The council which appointed the Electoral Registration Officer
- Any other local authority which area contains all or part of the Electoral Registration Officer's responsibility such as county borough councils
- Parish and community councils
- Individual candidates at a UK Parliamentary or European Parliamentary Election and the Election Agent of a registered political party which submits a list of candidates at a European Parliamentary Election
- Any police force in Great Britain
- National Criminal Intelligence Service
- National Crime Squad
- Police Information Technology Organisation
- Any body of constables established under an Enactment
- Security services, GCHQ and the Secret Intelligence Service
- A public library archive service within the registration area
The following organisations and individuals are entitled to a copy of the register when it is published.
- British Library
- National Library of Wales
- National Library of Scotland
- Returning Officer for a local government election
- (Acting) Returning Officer for a parliamentary election
- Local Returning Officer for a European Parliamentary Election
- Office for National Statistics
- The Electoral Commission
- The Boundary Commission
- The Court Service
