Disease reduction
Disease reduction (DRP) is part of the ‘Fit for Work, Fit for Life, Fit for Tomorrow' Strategic Programme (FIT3) which is being run by the Health and Safety Executive and Local Authority Inspectors. The DRP focuses on three priority areas:
In each of these areas the DRP delivers a variety of interventions including; inspections, publicity campaigns and supply chain initiatives in order to change behaviour in target industries, reduce exposure to causative agents and ultimately to reduce the incidence of ill health.
There is no legal duty for an employer to manage absence but the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) believes that managing absence should be a key and central part of managing all aspects of health in the workplace. It is pivotal to both the prevention of ill health and the retention of sick and disabled workers in employment.
To support employers in improving their practices in managing health at work, the HSE have developed a Sickness Absence Recording Tool to compliment the DRP initiative.
