The school operates on two sites: The new building caters for the 11-14 year olds and the re-developed building as the Academy’s 14-19 centre.

The specialism is Information and Communication Technology and this is very well resourced in the school.

What we liked

  • The ICT infrastructure to support teaching and learning through the use if 21st century equipment but equally as important, the on-call technical back-up support for staff on a daily basis
  • The wide corridors, natural light and open feel to the building
  • The use of tablet PCs by staff and students in most classrooms. This allowed the teachers to move around and teach rather than be ‘pinned’ to a white board at the front. It also gave opportunity for students to develop hand writing skills rather than always word processing their work when using a computer
  • The covered outdoor areas for the students to sit under in rain or hot weather

Areas we can improve upon

  • Ensuring that there is opportunity for displays for learning and celebration of students work in classrooms and corridors to make a fantastic new building more personal
