No Cold Calling Zone

In October 2006, 48 Winton residents become the first in Salford to get new protection from bogus callers.
Rydal Avenue, Westwood Park, has been declared a 'No cold calling area' by police and city council chiefs keen to put an end to criminals claiming to be legitimate business people, and preying on vulnerable residents.
Signs alert visitors to the existence of the zone, and all residents are briefed on how to act if they are suspicious about someone who has called at their door.
Trading standards bosses have written to local companies asking them not to conduct cold calling operations in the zone and a trading standards hotline has been established for local residents in the zone who are suspicious about an unexpected caller.
The scheme is supported by Salford City Council, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Police Authority and the city's community safety partnership.
