Drugs and alcohol in the workplace
Drugs and alcohol can have a significant impact on the workplace.
The picture nationally is that:
- Alcohol-related absence costs businesses £2 billion a year
- Almost 17 million working days are lost each year due to alcohol-related problems
- Alcohol is involved in more than 20% of industrial accidents
- 12% of the adult population used one or more illicit drugs in the last year
- 40% of the workforce under 40 has experimented with illicit drugs
- Drug using employees are three times more likely to require sick leave or benefits
- A member of staff under the influence of drink or drugs will only achieve 67% of their work potential
Support from the Salford Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT)
If you would like to receive a copy of the Salford DAAT "Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace" pack please contact us. The pack provides advice regarding the management of drugs and alcohol in the workplace, how to support existing staff who may be experiencing problems with their use, and guidance in developing a workplace policy.
We aim to support employers in reducing recruitment and training costs through retaining staff wherever possible and assisting employees in returning to full performance and health as soon as possible.
Through Aspire and Progress 2 Work we also have a small number of job seekers who have addressed previous addictions and are now trained and job ready. If you would be interested in recruiting from this pool or are interested in finding out more contact us.
