Educational Psychology Services
The Educational Psychology Service is located within the Inclusion Service of the Children's Services Directorate. The Educational Psychologists are based and work within the Locality Teams.
Salford Educational Psychology Service seeks to work in partnership with schools, parents, other LA services and services from health, social services and the voluntary sector to promote the learning, social inclusion and emotional well-being of Salford children.
It provides the following services:
- A core service to schools (including specialist provisions in Salford). This service:
- Operates consultation as a model of service delivery
- Allows Educational Psychologists and school staff to work together around issues at the individual child, group and whole school levels
- Seeks to find preventative approaches and to facilitate early intervention
- Project work with schools to promote inclusive attitudes, cultures and practices:
- Protected service time to be allocated from ‘bids’ made by schools or groups of schools
- Advice to the LA to enable the authority discharge its statutory duties.
- Strategic LA and multi-disciplinary work. For example:
- SEN, Inclusion Policy and Strategy
- Behaviour Improvement Plan
- Work to promote educational opportunities for children in public care
- Behaviour improvement Programme
- A service to Sure Start Providers and supervision of the Portage Service
- Training for SENCOs through Salford’s SENCO training course
- Joined up working with other LA services to improve Salford schools. To include:
- The future role of specialist provision in Salford
- Involvement in the LA’s Schools Giving Concern Group
- Support for schools in Special Measures and for those with Serious Weaknesses
- Critical incident debriefing for children and staff in Salford schools
- Research into areas pertinent to the LA and Salford schools
